How to apply: admission step-by-step
1. Select the topic of your interest
The most important step in the admission process is selecting the study field that is right for you. You can study either the Structural Biology or Bio-omics. If you have not selected your field of study yet, explore our web pages to get the information about all the research groups you could join and work on your PhD project. The topics available in this Call 2019 are available here
2. Contact the supervisor of your selected topic
Send him your academic CV and a motivational letter - let him know what experience you have and what you would like to do. Find out if your vision of the research topic and the study is in mutual consensus. Please contact the PhD supervisor latest by 15 February to secure enough time for careful revision of your application and to maintain highest professional standards of the selection process.
3. Submit the application
The applications will be accepted from 1 January to 15 March 2019 - check the dates here.
Candidates can apply via Faculty of Science of Masaryk University Brno using the electronic application: https://is.muni.cz/application.

4. Round 1 of the admission process: Application review
Round 1 of the admission process is based on your application and background information. Only complete applications will be accepted and reviewed.
You will be informed about the result of Round 1 of the admission by email by 29 March 2019. Should you be selected for the next round, you will also be sent information about the date and place of the admission interview.
5. Round 2 of the admission process: Interview
If you are selected for an admission interview, you need to reply within 3 days by e-mail and confirm your attendance. For candidates living abroad, personal attendance is not necessary - you can opt for participation in form of Skype conference.
The admission committee will be composed of at least 3 members – group leaders, senior researchers and members of the doctoral committee.
The interview (in English) with the PhD committee members will cover the following topics:
- the field of study
- dissertation thesis topic
- research interests
- career plans
- your scientific habits
- other related activities
The admission committee allocates points to interviewed candidates according to these assessment criteria:
- knowledge in the field of Life Sciences
- communication in English
- supplied materials
- general impression
The exam is successfully passed by candidates who get at least 85 points out of 100. However, passing this threshold does not guarantee admittance - as the number of positions is limited, only candidates with the highest number of points will get the position. The maximum number of accepted students is 30.
The results of Round 2 of the admission process will be announced to applicants by e-mail by 28 April 2019. The written notification of the final decision will be sent within 15 days from the session of the main admission committee of the faculty. If you are accepted to CEITEC PhD School, the decision will also contain information regarding enrollment.
Czech and Slovak candidates receive the enrollment invitation at the beginning of July and should follow the instructions (the enrollment takes place at specified dates in late July). Enrollment of international students is solved individually, as it is subject to a Certificate of the Recognition of International Education in the Czech Republic (the recognition is compulsory for enrollment to study, not for the admission process).
The studies commence with the autumn semester, courses starts in mid-September 2019. See MU academic calendar. For Phd students in CEITEC Life Sciences programme, PřF (Faculty of Science) is relevant.
